Spring Concert, “Illuminations” @ The Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
Apr 26 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

The Cathedral Concert Series is honored to host Tennessee Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. John Zastoupil, presenting a thematic concert titled “Illuminations” a program celebrating the beauty and power of music. Throughout history, music has served as a source of light—illuminating moments of celebration, reflection, humor, and spiritual wonder. Tonight’s program explores these musical illuminations, each work casting its own glow.

The sparkling energy of the Light Cavalry Overture by Franz von Suppé opens the program with brilliance and excitement, its famous galloping rhythms lighting the Cathedral with flair. In contrast, Adoration by Florence Price offers a moment of quiet radiance—an intimate and heartfelt meditation filled with warmth and lyric beauty. Joyful brilliance returns in Bugler’s Holiday by Leroy Anderson, where trumpets trade sparkling fanfares in a playful display of virtuosity and celebration. The program then turns toward a more contemplative light in Angels in the Architecture by Frank Ticheli, a work that explores the interplay between darkness and illumination, ultimately revealing moments of grace, hope, and transcendence. The concert concludes with the majestic Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral from Lohengrin by Richard Wagner. Its noble procession unfolds with increasing grandeur, shining with the splendor and ceremonial glow of one of opera’s most iconic musical moments.

Together, these works illuminate a spectrum of human experience—from joy and celebration to devotion and transcendence—reminding us that music has the power to brighten our spirits and reveal beauty in every moment.
